Warm Up America. This program has been wrapping people in warm blankets since 1992. Knitters can make a single section, or work together to make an entire blankets of squares, each measuring 7x9". Knitting groups are encouraged to donate completed blankets to service organizations within their own communities. Suggestions, tips, links to free patterns and mailing instructions are available on their web site. http://www.WarmUpAmerica.com

The Red Scarf Project. This project sends care packages twice a year to 2,500 college students as part of a comprehensive program created by the Orphan Foundation of America to ensure that young people aging out of the foster care system are encouraged to succeed as adults. The Valentine's Day packages include scarves that are knit by individuals and groups across the country. Scarves should be suitable for a college-aged boy or girl, and do not need to be red. Deadline is mid-January. See their web site for more project guidelines and shipping details. http://www.orphan.org/red_scarf_project.xhtml
